This was one of those books that had me hooked from the very beginning. And when I say this one starts with a bang... what a great bang it was šš„
I absolutely loved this book and it was a definite 5 star read for me. Marni Mann has once again managed to combine everything I love about a spicy romance with characters I actually became invested in, and I flew through this one.
The story follows Colson Weston, a billionaire, single dad and COO of the Weston Group, who isn't exactly looking for a relationship. Instead, he heads to Lush, a sex club where he can indulge in the desires he's not willing to share anywhere else. That's where he meets Sophie, and after one very memorable night together, neither of them can stop thinking about the other.
Unfortunately for them, when they meet again, things are very different. Sophie is a lawyer and finds herself on the opposite side of a legal battle involving Colson and the Weston Group. The woman who had been completely irresistible to Colson is now his enemy, and suddenly staying away from each other becomes a lot harder than it should be.
And this is where the fun really begins.
One of my favourite things about this book was the chemistry between Colson and Sophie. Their relationship had so much tension and the banter between them was so good. They were both strong characters who knew what they wanted and weren't afraid to go up against each other, which made their enemies-to-lovers journey so much fun to read.
And the spice? š„š„š„
This book is spicy and steamy and it definitely delivers on that front. The opening alone sets the tone for what's to come, but what I really enjoyed was that the spice didn't take away from the romance. There was a genuine emotional connection developing between them underneath all that chemistry, and I loved watching them slowly let their guards down.
I also really enjoyed the single-parent aspect of the story. Both Colson and Sophie have children, and I loved seeing their relationships with their kids alongside the romance. The family dynamics added another layer to the story and I particularly enjoyed seeing the Weston family again.
Colson was such a great hero. He's a successful billionaire and a man who knows exactly what he wants, but seeing him as a dad really showed another side to him. I loved his relationship with his daughter and the softer side of his character that came through as the story progressed.
Sophie was also a great heroine. She's strong, independent and more than capable of holding her own, both professionally and personally. I loved that she wasn't intimidated by Colson and was more than happy to challenge him.
ā¤ļø What I Liked
The chemistry: Colson and Sophie had incredible chemistry from the very beginning, and the tension between them was so good.
The spice: Definitely one for readers who like their romance on the spicier side. š„
The tropes: Enemies-to-lovers, single parents, forced proximity and found family? Yes please.
The characters: I loved seeing the softer sides of both Colson and Sophie and watching their walls slowly come down.
The Weston family: I always enjoy getting more of the family and seeing the characters from the previous books pop up throughout the story.
The writing: Marni Mann writes these books so well. I was completely pulled into the story and flew through it.
ā Things to Keep in Mind
This is definitely an extra spicy romance, so if you prefer a lower spice level, this probably isn't the book for you.
The story also features enemies-to-lovers, single parents, a one-night stand that develops into something much more complicated, and some corporate and legal conflict alongside the romance.
ā Would I Recommend It?
If you like:
Enemies-to-lovers
Billionaire romance
Single dad and single mum
Forced proximity
Forbidden romance
Found family
Plenty of spice and steam
Strong chemistry and banter
Then I would definitely add The Irresistible One to your TBR.
I absolutely loved this book and it was everything I was hoping for from a Marni Mann romance. It was spicy, steamy, had all my favourite tropes and a couple I couldn't get enough of. Marni Mann just knows how to write these stories and I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series.
ā 5/5 for me
