Wow, what an emotional rollercoaster this book was! This is the first book in the Unperfect series and follows Mia who escapes an abusive husband and finds herself homeless, penniless and recovering from some serious injuries. Luckily for her she gets a job at an architecture firm run by Max ‘that grumpy northern architect off Grand Designs’.
At first he has an immediate dislike and suspicion towards Mia and feels like she’s hiding something from him, but as they gradually get to know each other Max becomes Mia’s knight in shining armour so to speak.
This book had me crying my way through many chapters, as well as some swooning in what are some seriously sweet scenes between Max and Mia. I love how Max was so gentle with her, and of course the side characters in particular Teddy was brilliant. Not a huge amount of spice and passion in this book but you won’t miss it.
Domestic abuse is not an easy topic to write, nor to read for that matter but Susie writes it very well.
5/5 for me
